Adding Games to Servers

Anywhere Board Games uses art files to represents game boards and pieces (such as pieces players move, dice, cards, player screens, and the like), collectively referred to as "pieces." As a minimum, ABG requires one art file per piece face. For games where each players pieces or cards are to be obscured from other players, an art file is used as a player screen. A player screen is optional. For the game Go, for example, of which the pieces are the board and stones in two colors, three art files are needed: One for the board, and one for each color of stone. For the game checkers, for example, of which the pieces are the board and pieces in two colors and two sides, five art files are needed: One for the board and one for each side of the two colors of pieces.

Note: The idea is to enjoy and encourage more people to play board and card games, not to put companies out of business. Please play games that you own, and support the developers of the games you like!

Art files may be stored and accessed from the ABG server or at any location on the Internet for which a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) is available. Note that for art files located on the Internet, if the URL becomes not valid or is no longer available, the ABG server will not be able to represent that game piece. Art files of game pieces look best as Portable Network Graphic (PNG) and Graphic Interchange Format (GIF) files, though any file type which can be displayed in a Web browser may be used. 

The ABG server uses a file with the extension abg to store the locations of piece art files and their presentation on the screen. Use the ABG server interface to compose the abg file. Before beginning to add a game to a server, have all art files complete and available. It is easiest to create an abg file for all art files for all pieces at once.
